MacMillan Carol Concert

Cadzow Parish Church in Hamilton was full on Sunday afternoon for a Christmas fund raiser for the MacMillan Cancer Charity.

Taking part were Quarter Primary School Choir who performed brilliantly and with infectious enthusiasm, the Fringe Players who acted out an abreviated and very funny version of the panto 'Cinderella' (with the assistance of some SMVC members), and the Stonehouse MVC who performed seven pieces in total which were all very well received. A special mention goes to Ian Gray who stood in at the last minute to sing the Bass part in the Hallelujah quartet after Ian Harkness sustained an injury and was unable to attend the concert (we hope you have a quick recovey Ian). Schnewalzer went down extremely well complete with 'hats' and a special walking stick wielded by the conductor although the choir were surprisingly reluctant to 'sway' despite encouragement from the waving stick! (maybe they were scared?). The organ was expertly played by Peter Lavery and Douglas Muir yet again was an excellent compere (as well as very able soloist) and he tells us that they will have raised over £1200 for the MacMillan charity when all is counted up. Well done to all! Our next outing is the Christian Aid Carol Service at St Ninians, Stonehouse on Sunday 20th at 6.30pm.
